Moonjumpers Donates $1,000 to Helping Hands Rescue Mission to Support Local Families in Need

A Matched Gift Doubles the Impact for the Huntington Community

The Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation is proud to share that we recently donated $1,000 to Helping Hands Rescue Mission in support of their ongoing food pantry initiatives. This vital organization, which serves countless families throughout the Huntington area, plays an essential role in addressing food insecurity and supporting our neighbors with dignity, compassion, and consistency.

Even better? Our donation was matched by The Goodfellows of Suffolk County, bringing the total impact to $2,000. Thanks to this generosity and collaboration, Helping Hands was able to immediately put these funds to use—purchasing pallets of rice and essential staples that will go directly into the homes of local families who need it most.

It was a great way to start the morning and a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together for a common good.

Helping Hands Rescue Mission, founded in 1965 by Reverend Rose and Reverend Jim Powell, has been a pillar of the Huntington community for nearly six decades. Today, under the loving leadership of Kim Gambino, the mission continues its work with a simple yet powerful goal: to help those in need, without judgment and without delay. Their programs include weekly food distributions, emergency assistance, family support services, and seasonal outreach—ensuring that no one in the community feels forgotten.

The food pantry at Helping Hands is often a lifeline for local residents. Whether it’s a single parent trying to feed their children, an elderly neighbor on a fixed income, or a working family struggling to make ends meet, the pantry offers support with care, confidentiality, and heart. Donations like ours help stock shelves with staples such as rice, beans, canned goods, and baby essentials—items that can sustain a household through hard times and provide peace of mind.

When the Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation made this donation, we knew it would be meaningful. But to see it multiplied by the generosity of the Goodfellows of Suffolk County—and then put to immediate use to purchase bulk food items—was a powerful affirmation of our mission. This is what grassroots giving looks like. One organization steps forward, another matches the effort, and together we create real, tangible change for real families.

None of this would be possible without people like Kim Gambino, who works tirelessly on the front lines to ensure no one goes without the help they need. Her leadership, compassion, and deep love for this community are nothing short of inspiring. She is a reminder that service starts with heart—and that a single person, when supported by the collective, can change lives every single day.

At Moonjumpers, we believe deeply in the idea that it takes a community effort to make an impact. We exist to lift others, to offer support where it's needed most, and to champion those already doing the work on the ground. When we find organizations like Helping Hands—people who are truly making a difference—we don’t just write a check. We lean in. We show up. We look for ways to partner, amplify, and sustain their mission over time.

This donation represents more than just dollars. It represents meals. Relief. Hope. And above all, it represents the power of people coming together to care for one another.

We are proud to stand with Helping Hands Rescue Mission and the Goodfellows of Suffolk County in service of our shared values: compassion, equity, and community care. We’re especially proud to know that as a result of this joint effort, shelves are being restocked, pantries are being filled, and families in our area are being nourished and supported.

As we look to the months ahead, Moonjumpers remains committed to identifying and supporting local nonprofits that embody this same spirit of giving. Whether through scholarships, food drives, or emergency assistance, we will continue to seek out opportunities to uplift our neighbors and invest in the well-being of our Long Island communities.

We encourage others to do the same. No act of generosity is too small. Whether you volunteer your time, donate a meal, share a kind word, or contribute financially—your involvement matters. When we act together, we create ripples of hope that extend far beyond what we can see.
