The Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation Awards Inaugural Scholarships to Outstanding Local Students

The Moonjumpers Scholarship Committee proudly awarded four scholarships this week at Huntington High School and Walt Whitman High School, marking the first annual presentation of the Ken Christensen Leadership Huntington Scholarship and the Larry Kushnick Leadership Huntington Scholarship. These scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their academic studies, meaningful involvement in community service, and an unwavering commitment to leadership and personal growth.

After reviewing a highly competitive pool of applicants, the committee selected four remarkable individuals who embody the values of the Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation. These students have not only excelled in the classroom but have gone above and beyond to serve their communities, showcase resilience, and lead by example. Their unique combination of ambition, character, and service made them stand out as ideal recipients for these inaugural awards.

At Moonjumpers, we believe in the power of education to transform lives and open doors for future success. We view each scholarship as more than just a financial contribution—it is an investment in the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers. These awards reaffirm our mission to uplift and support students from our local communities as they pursue their dreams and educational goals.

Each scholarship recipient has shown great promise in both their academic and personal endeavors, and we have full confidence in their ability to continue making a meaningful impact in the world. These scholarships are not only a testament to their hard work, but also a vote of confidence in their potential to lead, inspire, and build stronger communities for the future.

About the Scholarships

The Moonjumpers Scholarship is designed to support high school seniors from the Huntington and South Huntington School Districts who plan to pursue a trade school certification or a two-year degree program. This $1,000 award recognizes students who have demonstrated academic effort, financial need, and a deep commitment to service. By supporting students entering technical fields, the Moonjumpers Foundation aims to strengthen local communities and empower young adults to pursue fulfilling, hands-on careers that are essential to our economy and society.

The Ken Christensen Leadership Huntington Scholarship was created in honor of Kenneth A. Christensen’s enduring legacy of service, vision, and leadership. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a high school senior who aspires to impact the future through careers in architecture, engineering, urban planning, or government. Recipients are selected for their strong academic performance, demonstrated leadership, and commitment to building more thoughtful and resilient communities.

The Larry Kushnick Leadership Huntington Scholarship, named in honor of Lawrence “Larry” Kushnick, recognizes a student who has shown a passionate dedication to law, public service, or community advocacy. This $1,000 scholarship celebrates individuals who exemplify civic responsibility, a drive for justice, and a desire to positively influence the world around them.

These scholarships reflect the heart of what Moonjumpers is all about: giving back, lifting others, and investing in the leaders of tomorrow. We are incredibly proud of this year’s recipients and look forward to continuing this tradition in the years ahead.

The Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation is already preparing for its 2026 awards, and we are excited to continue partnering with local schools and community members to support the next class of graduating seniors.
