Huntington is Open for Business: BID Community Clean-Up Day Rallies Local Spirit
On a sun-drenched Friday morning, the heart of Huntington Village pulsed with renewed energy as business owners, nonprofit leaders, and community advocates rolled up their sleeves for a common cause: keeping Huntington beautiful. Dubbed “Huntington is Open for Business,” the community-wide Clean-Up Day, held on June 20th, was a true testament to local pride and partnership.
Organized by the Huntington Business Improvement District (BID), this event brought together a diverse mix of organizations, including Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation, the Huntington Historical Society, the Townwide Fund of Huntington, the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Huntington, Tri-CYA, Shore Funding Solutions, St. Joseph’s University, National Grid, and PSEG Long Island’s Economic Development team. With a shared goal of revitalizing the village streetscape and reinforcing Huntington’s reputation as a destination for commerce, culture, and community, the day marked more than just a tidy-up—it was a celebration of civic connection.
Volunteers gathered in the early morning hours, equipped with gloves, bags, and brooms, ready to give Huntington Village the attention it deserves. The work was tangible: sidewalks were swept, flowerbeds were cleared of debris, new trash can inserts were installed, and litter was collected from hard-to-reach corners. More than just aesthetic, these acts contributed to the collective mission of making the Village feel fresh, walkable, and welcoming to shoppers, diners, and visitors alike.
“For small businesses, first impressions matter,” said one participating merchant. “A clean, inviting storefront can be the difference between someone stopping in—or walking by. Today’s event proves that we’re all in this together.”
The event wasn’t just about beautification. PSEG Long Island’s Economic Development team took the opportunity to engage with business owners directly, offering consultations on how to lower utility costs and implement energy-efficient solutions. Their involvement underscored the multi-faceted nature of the clean-up: blending environmental responsibility, economic development, and community pride into one cohesive initiative.
Moonjumpers, an integral supporter of youth and community programming across Long Island, was proud to join forces with other organizations for the event. “At our core, we’re about giving back,” said a Moonjumpers representative. “Whether it’s helping children in need or supporting initiatives like this, where the community comes together for something greater—we’re here for it.”
The Clean-Up Day was also a reminder of how many different hands it takes to keep a community thriving. The Huntington Historical Society added context to the day, reminding participants of the Village’s deep roots and storied past. The Chamber of Commerce helped amplify business involvement, while local colleges and corporate partners offered manpower and resources. With the Town of Huntington’s support, this initiative extended beyond just the Village—it became a model for civic collaboration.
As the sun settled into the afternoon, the sounds of laughter, conversation, and clinking glasses filled the air at Six Harbors Brewing Company. There, volunteers gathered for the brewery’s weekly Summer Yappy Hour—this time with a sense of accomplishment and well-earned celebration. Dogs roamed on leashes, live music played in the background, and participants raised their glasses to a job well done.
The success of the Clean-Up Day served as a promising kickoff to a full season of community programming in Huntington Village. With the 2025 event calendar already brimming with can’t-miss happenings, residents and visitors alike have plenty of reasons to return and rediscover what makes Huntington so special.
